A Park You Can Play In — in the Rainy Season and After Dark. Night Park in Ho Chi Minh City to Hold Closing Exhibition, 30 October–1 November, Looking Back on Two Months of Experimentation

Photographs, films and installations revisit the everyday life of the park and carry residents’ feedback into future township development.

Nomura Real Estate Vietnam (NREV), with the support of Phu My Hung (PMH), will hold the Closing Exhibition of “Công Viên Đêm” (Night Park) at P2 Park in Ho Chi Minh City from Friday, 30 October to Sunday, 1 November 2026.

The exhibition reflects on nearly two months of exploring how parks can be used during the rainy season and after dark, beginning on 4 September. Through photographs, moving images and creative works, it presents the play, everyday activities and trial and error that emerged during the project. The park itself becomes the exhibition venue. Visitors will also be invited to share their views to inform future public spaces.

Two months of turning rain and night into reasons to visit the park

In hot cities, the hours when people can comfortably spend time outdoors shift towards evening. In Ho Chi Minh City, sudden rainy-season downpours can further limit time in parks. Công Viên Đêm began with a question: can rain and darkness become opportunities for play and connection, rather than barriers?

At Night Plaza, locally made illuminated objects developed with mài can be touched and moved. At Rain Park, an approximately 20-metre rainwater collection structure designed by studio anettai lets children observe and play with the movement of water.

During the programme, families were observed gathering at Rain Park in the evening, with parents using the explanatory sign to talk to children about the water cycle. The team also observed that the purpose of the objects at Night Plaza was not always clear, pointing to opportunities to improve wayfinding and connections between the two areas. These findings, including what did not go as planned, will be part of the exhibition.

The park itself becomes a gallery: four exhibition elements

The displays are concentrated around Rain Park and Night Plaza, using existing trees, lawns and the pavilion. Visitors encounter records by day and light and projections after dark.

1. Photo Archives

Approximately 20 photo frames trace the design and making process, daily play and the ways residents used the park.

2. Pavilion Gallery

The pavilion hosts planned displays of works, records and workshop materials exploring water, play and the city.

3. Garden Gallery

Small signs and illuminated elements are distributed across the lawn, inviting visitors to discover stories as they walk.

4. Night Projection

After dark, photographs and films of children playing, rainfall and the changing evening landscape are projected in the park.

The Lost Lights of the Park — nighttime treasure hunt

Participants become “Lightkeepers” and set out with a torch, map and mission card to bring the park’s lights back. Starting at the pavilion, they follow clues through Rain Park and along the trail before rearranging illuminated cubes at Night Plaza to complete a pattern. The programme invites families and friends to explore familiar places in a different way.

HOW TO JOIN: Meet on site. Please check official announcements for the meeting point and starting times.

Residents’ voices, carried forward into future townships

The Closing Exhibition is not only a presentation of achievements. It also shares unexpected uses and operational challenges, and asks residents what they would like to keep or change. NREV and PMH will examine how the lessons from P2 Park can inform the use of public spaces and future township development.
